Cecilia Meredith Jimenez, a participating editor, who highlighted the importance of these gatherings in expanding the reach of literature and culture, said: “Making these expressions get at the entire population is vital, and that is why these spaces are essential.”
The specialist also highlighted the diversity of the event, which brings together journalists, publishing representatives, and professionals from different generations. “Attending is always enriching; you learn from experiences of other provinces and colleagues,” she added.
Regarding this issue, Juan Mendoza, president of UPEC in Camaguey, emphasized the value of the alliance between the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC) and the Hermanos Saiz Association (AHS) to hold this colloquium, which fosters exchange and development.
Mendoza noted that the event allows for a rethinking of professional practices and the improvement of cultural journalism in the country. “The fact that it’s held in Camaguey is already a success, but the participation of young people adds even greater significance,” he expressed.
The cultural leader highlighted that the development of new generations is a priority for UPEC and AHS organizations, which work together for integration and professional growth.
The colloquium, organized jointly with the Ministry of Culture, reaffirms its commitment to promoting a more critical and comprehensive cultural journalism capable of engaging with new audiences, where young and veteran journalists in the sector have the opportunity to discuss, connect, and showcase their work in national media, under the legacy of Nicolas Guillen.
