Cumulative homicide rate of 8.31 remains high in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, June 24 (Prensa Latina) The cumulative homicide rate in the Dominican Republic was 8.31 per 100,000 inhabitants through the first half of June, the National Police confirmed.

This figure represents a decrease of 1.69 points equal to the same period in 2024 and is due to the prevention work of the Joint Task Force, however, it remains high.

According to the source, 23 provinces (out of a total of 31 plus the National District) have single-digit murder rates, confirming the effectiveness of the Security Plan, according to authorities.

Despite this reduction, crime and citizen insecurity have long been the biggest concerns for Dominicans, along with the high cost of living.

On the other hand, 11 provinces have a rate above single digits, which places the majority of the national territory within the control parameters established by the authorities, according to the official version.

Of the current cumulative rate, the Police detail that 1.49 points correspond to homicides of foreign citizens (mainly Haitians) in the provinces of Hato Mayor, Elias Piña, and Dajabon, where immigration patrols and control are intensified.
