Data extraction from crashed plane in India begins

New Delhi, Jun 26 (Prensa Latina) The Indian Ministry of Aviation today announced that the extraction of data from the black boxes of the Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on June 12 is underway.

A team from the Aviation Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is in charge of analyzing the cockpit voice and flight data recorders to reconstruct the sequence of events that caused the tragic incident that killed 270 people, the agency said.

The investigation will also make it possible to identify factors that will contribute to improving air safety and preventing future incidents, said the Ministry of Aviation.

The team of experts includes a specialist in aviation medicine, an Air Traffic Control (ATC) officer and representatives of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the government’s investigative body for the state of manufacture and design of the aircraft.

The government agency said that the cockpit voice recorder was recovered on June 13 from the rooftop of the medical school building where the plane went down and the flight data recorder was recovered from the wreckage three days later.

Subsequently, standard operating procedures were implemented for the safe handling, storage and transport of both devices, he said.
