Russia Would Consider Threatening NATO Nuclear Weapons in Estonia

Moscow, Jun 27 (Prensa Latina) Estonia's intention to deploy North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons poses a direct threat, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today.

“Of course, it is a direct threat,” Peskov told Life portal journalist Alexandr Yunashev when asked Friday whether Moscow considers Estonia’s plans as a danger.

Earlier, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said that the country is ready to receive in its territory planes of other member countries of the Atlantic Alliance with nuclear weapons capability.

In this regard, the presidential spokesman stated that the leaders of the Baltic countries often express “absurd” ideas. In addition, he noted that in reality Russia does not maintain contact with the Baltic republics, so it is difficult to worsen their relations further.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in an interview with U.S. journalist Tucker Carlson in February 2024 that Russia has no intention of attacking NATO member countries; those who claim otherwise, according to him, are trying to divert attention from internal problems.
