This morning’s freezing temperatures, with thermometers reading 0.1 degrees in the capital, affected the setup of voting stations, where more than 15.4 million citizens are expected to attend.
Eight political parties are participating in the event: the Socialist Party, the Broad Front, the Communist Party of Chile, the Green Social Regionalist Federation, the Party for Democracy, the Radical Party, the Liberal Party, and Humanist Action, all of them part of the ruling coalition Unidad por Chile.
Voters must choose between Gonzalo Winter, Jeannette Jara, Carolina Tohá, and Jaime Mulet, who appear in that order on the ballot.
According to analysts, after a short and complex campaign, one of the main factors determining the winner will be voter turnout.
Based on previous experience, between 1.5 and 2 million people are expected to participate in this Sunday’s voting process in the more than 2,000 centers located throughout the country.
