Venezuela opens International Book Fair

Caracas, July 3 (Prensa Latina) The 21st Venezuela International Book Fair (FILVEN) opens its doors until July 13, with Egypt as the guest of honor and nearly twenty publishing houses from all continents.

“Reading humanizes” will be the motto accompanying the major national and international literary exhibition held each year by Venezuela. This year, the state of Guayana Esequiba will participate with its initiatives as a local guest.

As part of the 10-day Filven program, there will be discussions, creative writing workshops, book and theater presentations, dramatized readings, screenings, lectures, and tributes to great Venezuelan authors, among others.

Among the honored authors are Esteban Emilio Mosonyi Szas; Jean Marc Sellier de Civrieux (posthumously); writer, economist, and professor Judith Valencia; the poet Gonzalo Fragui; and the recently deceased visual artist and art critic Juan Calzadilla.

The Fair will also celebrate the centennial of Ramos Sucre’s masterpiece, “Torre de Timon,” a book of prose poems and historical essays first published in 1925.

Writers and publishers from Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, China, Cuba, Canada, Colombia, Spain, Egypt, the United States, Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras, Iran, and Turkey will participate, as well as prominent local writers.

The Children’s Pavilion will also be an attractive space for kids and adults, offering a wide variety of activities, including creative workshops, storytelling, animation activities, recreation, visual arts, dramatized readings, and more.
