Cuba: The gift of culture despite economic and energy difficulties

Havana, July 6 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's system of cultural institutions is facing the challenges of an economic and energy crisis that is limiting the implementation of many initiatives, especially now, as the holiday season begins.

The Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC), for example, have designed programs, taking into account the possibilities and conditions of the regions.

Havana’s cultural center Casa de las Americas launched its program of guided tours, concerts, workshops, and book presentations, especially for the enjoyment of children, adolescents, and young adults, under the slogan “A House for Children.”

For its part, EGREM Musical Record Company will hold its first Innovation Fair at the 31st and 2nd Cultural Center in Havana.

Inspired by the slogan “Summer” that sounds like EGREM, music will be brought to Havana’s plazas and communities to spice up the summer season

In the province of Matanzas, more than four thousand activities are planned, including festivals such as the Ciudad de los Puentes Clarinet Festival, from the 8th to the 12th at the José White Concert Hall; the Duendecillos de los Puentes Children’s Performance Festival, from the 18th to the 20th; and Rumbaking, from the 24th to the 27th.

Also included the celebration of the 103rd anniversary of the birth of Matanzas poet Carilda Oliver Labra and the return of Humor Fridays to the city’s Velasco Cinema-Theater.

In eastern Cuba, Camaguey’s Historian’s Office launched its summer program with workshops, tours, and cultural activities.
