African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf made these remarks while speaking at the 3rd African Job Creation Forum, which is being held at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum in this capital from July 7 to 9.
Youssouf stated that, with more than 60 percent of the African population under the age of 25, the lack of job opportunities for this population group must be addressed sustainably for the continent’s long-term economic prospects and social stability.

The AUC chairperson asserted, “Africa contributes less than three percent to global value chains. The time for gradual action is over. We must act on a large scale.”

He highlighted the agricultural sector as the continent’s largest employer, supporting more than 60 percent of livelihoods, and called on large and small companies to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for industrial growth and trade.
