An unexpected meeting held in La Plata city brought together Governor Axel Kicillof, leader of the Movimiento Derecho al Futuro (Right to the Future Movement-MDF); Maximo Kirchner, head of La Campora youth organization; and Sergio Massa, leader of the Frente Renovador (Renewal Front); which the media called a Peronist summit to define the PJ electoral strategy.

The meeting was held at the Buenos Aires Governor’s Office, where the three Peronist leaders in the PBA continued their ongoing talks to reach an electoral agreement in the face of the tough challenge posed by La Libertad Avanza (Liberty Advances-LLA) party, led by President Javier Milei, and the Republican Proposal (PRO) party, led by former President Mauricio Macri.

The leaders also addressed pressing issues such as the economic situation of the country’s largest province and the national government’s announcement to eliminate the National Highway Administration, the layoffs and closures of factories and SMEs caused by the Casa Rosada’s austerity policies, Noticias Argentina reported.

The news agency added that they also warned of the drop in tax revenue and the executive branch’s lack of response to the provinces’ needs.

The parties must formalize their positions on Wednesday before the electoral authority. Based on the steps taken so far, these tasks will not pose major difficulties for the PJ’s internal structure.

On September 7, the citizens in Buenos Aires will elect 23 provincial senators, 15 substitutes, 46 provincial lawmakers, and 28 substitutes, for their Legislature based in La Plata provincial capital.

The national legislative elections will take place on October 26, in which Argentinians will elect 127 legislators and 24 senators, thus completing the partial renewal of the National Congress scheduled for 2025.
