Macron and Starmer to discuss migration, Ukraine in London

London, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in this capital on Wednesday, on the second day of his state visit to the United Kingdom, focused on issues such as migration and support for Ukraine. The meeting at 10 Downing Street is generating attention and sparking speculation about a possible London-Paris agreement to end, or at least ease, the differences over the Channel migration issue, a source of tension between the two countries, heightened in the last five years following Brexit.

Some British media outlets stated that Starmer and Macron could agree on the so-called “one in, one out” plan, through which the United Kingdom would return to France people who crossed the Atlantic illegally in small boats, in exchange for accepting individuals with family ties on English soil.

Another issue that should focus talks is the war in Ukraine, where there is a common vision regarding Kiev’s rearmament and the crusade against Russia, which both leaders accuse of threatening Europe.

The visitor’s agenda this Wednesday also includes a summit on the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a forum with entrepreneurs, and a visit to the British Museum, where he will announce the loan of the famous Bayeux Tapestry as a symbol of friendship.

Macron and his wife Brigitte were received on Tuesday by King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, who hosted a banquet for 160 guests at Windsor Castle.
