Sheinbaum praises the solidarity of Mexicans after support for the US

Mexico City, July 9 (Prensa Latina) President Claudia Sheinbaum congratulated authorities from the state of Coahuila and highlighted the solidarity of the Mexican people following the support of the country's firefighters in the flood relief efforts in Texas.

“Firstly, we must congratulate the mayor of Acuna (Emilio de Hoyos) and the governor of Coahuila (Manolo Jimenez), who helped in this process,” said the president, who yesterday recognized the work of the members of the Fire Department of that state.

In her regular press conference, where the president emphasized that action is part of the essence of the Mexican people, she asserted: “I say part, because we Mexicans are much more than that, but the sense of solidarity and fraternity characterizes us and must always characterize us, no matter the circumstance. Mexicans lend a hand to those who suffer, to those left behind.”

Noting that “there are some who don’t like that, who continue to think as they did in the past;” the president emphasized that “the essence of the Mexican people is fraternity,” which is evident when citizens of this nation help others.

“And when we help each other, when there is a difficult situation in our country (an earthquake, a flood), the first ones who come forward to support us are always our neighbors. There is enormous solidarity, and that must be preserved and put above all else,” she emphasized.

Sheinbaum who confirmed the day before that a person of Mexican origin died during the tragedy and a woman, a relative of the victim, had not been found, said that the US government thanked Mexico for its support in the wake of the severe flooding in Texas, which has left more than 100 people dead and more than 160 missing.
