Cuba attends forum on financial intelligence in Luxembourg

Luxembourg City, Jul 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is sharing its experiences and results in financial intelligence at the 31st plenary session of the Egmont Group, a forum taking place in Luxembourg this week, the island's delegation emphasized on Thursday.

The event marks the 30th anniversary of the creation of an international organization comprising 170 countries, which is highly relevant as a tool in fighting terrorism, drug trafficking, and other scourges.

The Caribbean nation is represented by Armando Torres, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Financial Operations Investigation at the Central Bank of Cuba, and Yasmary Rodriguez, Manager of Knowledge Management of the financial institution.

This time, the plenary session covers three leading sessions, dedicated to the autonomy and operational independence of Financial Intelligence Units, resources for combating illicit finance, and the future of the Egmont secure website.

During the forum, Cuba will present its actions to enhance information exchange, personnel training, cooperation, and regulatory support.

Cuba is a signatory to multilateral instruments aimed at combating these scourges and has been a member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) system since December 2012, as a full member of the Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (GAFILAT).
