India rescues U.S. sailboat crew members

New Delhi, Jul 11 (Prensa Latina) The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) today rescued two American crew members of the sailboat Sea Angel stranded about 52 nautical miles southeast of Indira Point, in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The yacht was disabled in extremely adverse conditions, with an unfurled sail and a tangled propeller, a statement from the South Asian nation’s Ministry of Defense said.

Upon receiving the distress alert, MRCC Port Blair alerted all nearby merchant vessels and initiated rescue coordination protocols, the military agency said.

In addition, the ICG vessel Rajveer was deployed and established communication with the stranded crew who made an assessment of the situation.

Despite the strong winds and mechanical breakdown, the crew was found safe and in good health, said the Ministry of Defense.

Following the rescue, the yacht was successfully towed and escorted to Campbell Bay harbor this morning.
