Cuba pledges to inclusion and regional cooperation in social security

Havana, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) Community solutions and inclusive policies are currently essential to reducing inequalities, Cuban Labor and Social Security Minister Martha Elena Feito stated in this capital.

Feito noted that local good practices, along with regional cooperation, contribute to protecting workers’ rights in a context of significant demographic changes.

During the closing ceremony of the Continental Meeting of Good Practices on Demographic Dynamics and its Relationship with Social Security, the minister called for the implementation of innovative reforms in pension systems to ensure their equity and financial sustainability.

Pedro Kumamoto, Secretary General of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (ICSS); Teresa Amarelle Boue, General Secretary of the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC); and Latin American experts on population and social protection, attended the event, held on July 10-11.

Sponsored by the CISS, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the forum fostered debate on population aging, migration, fertility rates, and youth employment, among other phenomena.

Feito noted that challenges to the sustainability of social protection systems, which require intersectoral policies that integrate health, education, and employment, were analyzed through a videoconference with national speakers and those from several countries of the region.
