Syrian transitional president begins visit to Azerbaijan

Damascus, July 12 (Latin Press) The Syrian president for the transitional phase, Ahmad Al-Shara, today began an official visit to Azerbaijan, where he was received by his counterpart from this Asian republic, Ilham Aliyev, reported the official Syrian news agency SANA.

Both sides are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation, particularly in the oil and gas fields.

Baku had announced its full readiness to support Syria and strengthen bilateral relations with Damascus.

In turn, the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, after his return from a recent official visit to Azerbaijan, declared that Aliyev had assured him of his country’s readiness to provide full support to Syria in the field of natural gas.

After assuming the presidency of Syria on January 29, 2025, Al-Shara visited several countries including Turkey, France, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

On January 29, 2025, the new Syrian government declared al-Shara president for a five-years transitional period.
