According to an official statement from the National Naval Air Service (Senan), three helicopters from the Joint Task Force Bravo (JTF B), two UH 60 Black Hawk and one CH 47 Chinook, arrived in the isthmus for these maneuvers which will last until July 18.
In its message, the Senan specified that these days will allow to reinforce the preparation against threats to the security of the Panama Canal and other strategic infrastructures of the Central American country “with full respect to the national sovereignty”, which is questioned by social groups.
For these groups, united in the Pueblo Unido por la Vida alliance, this type of training, backed by a memorandum signed last April between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Security, allows a greater temporary and rotating US military presence in Panama.
They also denounce that this document allows the establishment of military bases in violation of the Neutrality Treaties, signed in 1977.
