As announced by the Presidency, Ramaphosa will address the events arising from a public statement by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, detailing allegations against senior politicians and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The president was attending the BRICS summit in Brazil on Sunday, July 6, 2025, the statement recalls, when General Mkhwanazi presented numerous allegations at a press conference.
Mkhwanazi made accusations of corruption against senior SAPS officials and the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu.
In a statement, Ramaphosa pledged to address this development upon his return from Brazil, given the implications for national security.
The planned public intervention will take place after the president gets fully informed on the issue, including numerous meetings with interested social stakeholders, the statement details.
