“With deep sorrow, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry mourns the death, early this Monday, of the beloved comrade Rigoberto Senarega Madruga (Matanzas, 1960), outstanding director of photography, producer and trainer of generations of Cuban filmmakers”, reported the Icaic on his Facebook account.

“Today we bid farewell to a tireless artist, a generous teacher and an beloved human being.

His legacy will remain in every image he captured and in the grateful memory of those who work with him,” the text says.

Graduated in Geography-Pedagogy in 1983, Senarega devoted much of his life to audiovisual creation and teaching.

He was a professor of photography at the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA).

The statement recalls that from his youth he joined the cinema clubs movement, where he filmed more than twenty materials in 16 mm-documentaries, short and long fiction-many of them recognized with awards for best photography.

From 1984 began his collaboration with the producer Trimagen and, later, with the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT).

Since his entry into the Icaic, his imprint was key in numerous serials, documentaries and fiction films, where he left his mark with his sensitive and committed gaze.

In more than 30 years of work, he also served several international television stations, including NBC, BBC and Televisión de Galicia.

His works have been exhibited at exhibitions and festivals in Cuba, Spain, Italy, the United States and other countries, bringing with them a deeply Cuban, human and authentic vision.
