After visiting her client a few days ago, the lawyer that posted on his Facebook profile that the doctor now weighs just 60 kilograms, after having lost about 40 kg since his arrest in December, 2024, that he has been subjected to blows to the chest, face, head, and neck, causing him serious injuries.

She wrote that Israeli prison authorities refused to provide him with the necessary treatment or medication and failed to refer him to a specialist, despite his irregular heart rhythm.

Although it’s already summer, Abu Safiya continues to wear his winter clothes, the lawyer noted, criticizing the terrible detention conditions; in this regard, she revealed that the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital is locked in an underground cell without sunlight.

Last year, the doctor lost his son, Ibrahim, in an Israeli attack on the hospital entrance and was injured by drone shrapnel. However, he continued to treat children despite the difficult circumstances.

In December 2024, he was arrested by the military at the gates of the health center and transferred to Sde Teiman prison, where he was subjected to torture, including beatings, electric shocks, and deprivation of food and sleep, according to various reports.

In March 2025, an Israeli court extended Abu Safiya’s detention for six months without charges or trial, reported the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights.
