In this regard, the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, highlighted that 26 provinces (out of 32) remain with figures below one digit.
Raful attributed this decrease to the work of prevention and inter-agency collaboration of the Joint Task Force.
“We see a clear downward trend, the result of the preventive and comprehensive work of the Task Force,” he said, and clarified that the decline in this scourge does not mean that regrettable events do not occur.
He reiterated that it has been crucial to adopt measures such as the regulation of alcohol consumption and the control of firearms in public spaces.
He argued that education is also key in order to eradicate assaults in the citizenry (many quarrels end in murder) and save lives, which includes active agents.
“Since a person is linked to an issue of aggression, it is subject to investigation and suspended and withdrawn its weapon of regulation to be on the street,” he said.
The Dominican Republic recorded a total of 619 homicides in the first half of this year, which puts the country with a cumulative rate of 8.3 per 100,000 inhabitants.
According to Raful, the cumulative murder rate dropped 4.24 points, comparing the first six months of 2023 (12.54 per 100,000 inhabitants) with a similar period in 2025.
