Argentine retirees gather at Dignity March this Wednesday

Buenos Aires, July 16 (Prensa Latina) Argentine retirees converged, as usual, in front of the National Congress to demand an increase in their salaries and pension extension, what Javier Milei's government has denied to them.

Their peaceful demonstration, which has been repeatedly repressed by law enforcement agencies, is the prelude to the national drive called for Thursday in support of the demands of the doctors from Dr. Garrahan Hospital and in defense of public health.

A large group of retirees gathered at Justicialista Party headquarters in Buenos Aires, and others did so via videoconference. Former President Cristina Fernandez, now banned, dedicated a recorded message thanking for her support, firstly, for “the endless displays of affection and love that I have constantly received from all of you over all these years, and also, obviously, during the years of our administration at the head of the government.”

She went on describing today’s situation of Argentina: “It is a difficult time for everyone, because it is precisely the retiree sector, the senior citizen sector, that is being one of the government’s adjustment variables in this plan of such cruelty.”

She called on them to “organize, because the only way to confront this cruel policy, with both ends of life, as I say, with the children… with those who have already lived life… is to confront it with political organization and with love, with both,” Cristina concluded.

On Tuesday, the State Workers Association gathered on a march and staged rally in front of the Ministry of Deregulation and State Transformation, to denounce the government’s harsh adjustments that have led to the closure of institutions and the loss of tens of thousands of jobs.

During the drives, ATE announced an action plan against the government’s scrapping policy and announced that it will join the march for Garrahan and public health on Thursday from Plaza de los Dos Congresos to Plaza de Mayo.
