Havana, July 16 (Prensa Latina) In the context of the current session of the National Assembly of People’s Power, the Cuban government today presented a detailed assessment of the progress of the government program aimed at correcting distortions and boosting national development.

The report, presented by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, included an analysis of compliance with measures taken from December 2023 to date.

Mr Marrero stressed that the government programme includes 10 general objectives, 87 specific objectives, 269 concrete actions and 230 indicators and goals.

Three versions of the document have been prepared to date, which have been discussed and adjusted for implementation by the public administration.

He stressed that, despite the efforts of the United States to affect the Cuban economy through the economic, commercial and financial blockade, the country continues to advance in its recovery efforts.

The head of government denounced that Washington’s policies seek to limit external entry routes, intimidate trading partners and discourage foreign investment, with the aim of provoking a short-term economic collapse.

However, he noted that there are also internal challenges, such as the persistence of old practices, lack of innovation in implementing solutions and insufficient generalization of good experiences.

On the fiscal front, it was reported that although a deficit was expected in the first quarter of the year, there was a surplus equivalent to 21 per cent of what was planned.

The current account of the State budget also maintained a constant surplus during the first months of the year, amounting to 27 billion pesos.

The head of government reiterated the commitment of the Caribbean country to achieve macroeconomic stability and the well-being of the Cuban people, stressing the importance of continuing to work responsibly and creatively to meet current challenges and build a stronger and more sustainable economy.
