Cuba remembers Fernando Ortiz on his birthday

Havana, July 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuba remembers anthropologist and historian Fernando Ortiz today on the 144th anniversary of his birth. The Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Roberto Morales, expressed on the social network X that "his monumental work must be even more widely disseminated" and recognized the prolific life of someone who dedicated his encyclopedic knowledge to serving his country.

Fernando Ortiz was an anthropologist, jurist, archaeologist, and journalist who studied Afro-Cuban historical and cultural roots, who made notable contributions related to the sources of national culture.

For his research, he is considered the third discoverer of Cuba, after Christopher Columbus and Alexander von Humboldt.

The concept of transculturation given by Fernando Ortiz constituted a milestone for anthropology, besides that his work was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
