Mass deportation of Haitians continues from Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, July 16 (Prensa Latina) The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) of the Dominican Republic detained 1,741 Haitian immigrants and repatriated another 1,431 as a result of operations carried out in different parts of the country, it was reported today.

The institution detailed that, with the collaboration of the security forces, the actions focused the previous day on strategic areas of Gran Santo Domingo, Santiago de los Caballeros, La Vega, Mao/Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Elías Piña and Jimaní.

Likewise, in the Eastern region, Azua, Barahona, Puerto Plata, Pedernales and Montecristi.

The Army, the Border Security Center, the National Police, the Ministries of Defense and Public Affairs, the Navy and the Air Force, among others, participated in these operations in a coordinated manner.

It reported that, as usual, Haitians without legal documents were returned through the binational gates in Dajabón, Elías Piña, Jimaní and Pedernales, areas where the authorities are strengthening immigration controls to prevent unauthorized entry and promote proper immigration order, it indicated.

The DGM highlighted that inter-institutional collaboration contributes to strengthening the mechanisms for the control of irregular migration, in line with the security principles established by the Government and the Defense Council.

Every day, more than a thousand citizens of Haiti are returned to their country of origin since the Government of Luis Abinader tightened immigration policy in April of this year.
