On the small screen, the audiovisual will be presented next Saturday, also at 2:00 PM, in the magazine “Una calle, mil caminos,” as part of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television’s 2025 summer offerings.
According to the published synopsis, the story revolves around Caleb, a rural teenager who dreams of being a dancer. A disturbing event and the loss of his mother marked his life, filling him with anger and pain; and when he gains the opportunity to begin forging his career, the young man struggles between being what he dreams of, or living up to his family.
“Raiz” is a work that began to take shape more than two years ago, and through which he wanted to tell a universal story that different audiences could connect with, using a rural town as the setting and dance as the path, without it being the story of a dancer, the film’s director told the Cubasi website.
Martinez explained that for the lead role, he chose an actor with dance skills, not a professional dancer: Dario Rivero, who began acting as a child and later studied dance in Matanzas province.
Later, already in Havana, Rivero continued his dance career, eventually joining the Olga Alonso theater group. At the age of 15, he was recommended to the director of the television film to participate in the casting for the role of Caleb, a role he won.
Antuanet Medina, Mariam Muñoz, Adis Ortega, and David Alejandro also make their debut on camera, sharing the cast with established actors Nestor Jimenez and Yazmin Gomez, and supported by a talented directing and production team.
