Angolan students to protest rising cost of living and tuition

inflacion
Luanda, July 19 (Prensa Latina) The Angolan Student Movement (MEA) called for a rally in Luanda and other parts of the country to protest against the rising cost of living and tuition at private schools.

The march in the capital is scheduled to leave the São Paulo market at 1:00 p.m. local time and head to the Ministry of Finance in protest of the increase in fuel and transportation prices, and other measures that affect the lives of young people and their families, according to MEA President Francisco Teixeira.

However, the protesters’ planned route does not coincide with the one authorized by the Luanda Provincial Government, which recommended compliance with public safety regulations and adaptation to the itinerary.

In a statement, the government agency urged participants to respect the proposal and cooperate with the National Police officers assigned to ensure order during the protest.

National Police Chief Superintendent Nestor Goubel appeared on Angolan Public Television the day before and issued the same call to respect the route authorized by the Luanda provincial government to avoid confrontations with law enforcement.
