Fuel shortage forces healthcare centers in Gaza to shut down

Ramallah, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) Services at several healthcare facilities in the Gaza Strip are currently shut down due to fuel shortage and the blockade imposed by Israel on the Palestinian territory, an official source denounced.

The Health Ministry in Gaza criticized the Army’s decision to prevent the entry of diesel, which is vital for the functioning of hospitals and sectors such as the water supply.

It stated that the Public Service Hospital, the Central Oxygen Station, the Al-Salam Clinic, the Al-Shati Clinic, the Al-Jalaa Medical Center, and the Haidar Abdel Shafi Medical Center are among the facilities that have halted operations.

It warned that many other hospitals will also cease operations in the next 48 hours for the same reason.

Israel is targeting what remains of the healthcare system in the enclave, the Ministry affirmed, and called for the urgent entry of fuel to prevent a further catastrophe in the region.

Zakaria Abu Qamar, director general of Pharmacy at Gaza’s Health Ministry, warned last week of an unprecedented worsening of the medicine crisis in the territory due to Israeli siege.
