Philippines and U.S. sign new trade agreement

Manila, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) The presidents of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Junior, and the United States, Donald Trump, today closed a trade agreement that sets a 19 percent tariff on exports from the Asian nation, local media reported here.

The measure replaces the 20 percent tariff that Washington had planned to impose starting in August, and exceeds the 17 percent announced in April as part of a reciprocity policy.

Trump reported the pact through his Truth Social platform, where he assured that this completely opens the Philippine market to US products, without tariffs.

Philippine authorities have not yet disclosed details on the concrete benefits of the understanding and its potential impact on the national economy.
