Argentina:President of the Chamber of Deputies faces criminal charges

Buenos Aires, July 24 (Prensa Latina) Martin Menem, president of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies and a key ally of Executive Javier Milei, is facing a criminal charge of corruption and impeachment proceedings for benefiting his family company with lucrative contracts.

While Milei calls for the eradication of the “political caste,” a key ally in the National Congress has found himself in the eye of the storm,” the online magazine RealPolitik reported.

It adds: “Martin Menem was criminally charged and his impeachment was requested for benefiting his family business, Tech Security SRL, with a direct tender of 3.9 billion pesos awarded by the Banco de la Nación Argentina.”

The accusation, it adds, not only implicates Menem, but also exposes the web of power, businesses, nightclubs, soccer clubs, and ties to all sides of national politics.

Peronist leader Juan Ricardo Mussa formally filed the complaint and submitted the request to the Lower House’s Impeachment Committee.

In the indictment, he accuses Menem, son of former President Carlos Menem, of poor performance, influence peddling, violation of public ethics, complicity, and even treason, invoking Article 264 of the Corporate Law, which prohibits public officials from having corporate ties with companies related to their duties for up to two years after taking office.

After assuming the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies, with the full support of Milei, his party, and other allies in the chamber, Menem transferred Tech Security SRL to his brothers’ names, keeping everything in the family.

Behind Tech Security is more than just a family business: there is a history of power, connections, and expansion under every administration.

Founded in 2005, the company took its first strong steps at Club Atletico River Plate, where it still maintains security with multi-million-dollar contracts, according to RealPolitik.

Since then, it has added clubs: Racing, Velez, Argentinos Juniors, All Boys, Ferro, Rosario Central, and even the Argentine national team, with whom he even traveled abroad.

In addition, his company was responsible for security at the Ezeiza stadium and for international events such as the U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
