During that forum held in Arica, Chile, both governments proposed re-establishing the Charaña-La Paz railway, an initiative that had been stalled for years but would now find new momentum under a binational framework, A Foreign Ministry release stated.
Catarina led the Andean Amazonian country’s delegation, which also included Delia Pinto, Director General of Integration and Borders; Karina Serrudo, President of the National Customs Office; Bolivian Consul General in Chile, Claudia Zegarra; and Bolivian Consul in Arica, Geovana Rodriguez.
The Chilean side was represented by Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Gloria de la Fuente, Chilean Consul General in La Paz Fernando Velasco, and other authorities.
“Since 1997, (…) we have promoted this initiative, and today, 28 years later, we continue to advance along a clear roadmap,” Catarina emphasized, “with concrete results in issues such as health, education, tourism, and productive development. This reflects the political will of our presidents.”
The Border Committee was re-established in 2023 after several years of suspension.
