Media outlets demand free movement from Israel in Gaza

Paris, July 24 (Prensa Latina) The news agencies AFP (France), Reuters (United Kingdom), and AP (United States), along with the British network BBC News, called on Israel to address the famine and the obstacles threatening journalistic work in Gaza.

In a joint statement, they expressed concern about the prevailing situation and demanded that journalists be allowed free movement in the blockaded Palestinian territory.

“Reporters face numerous hardships and difficulties in the war zone; we are deeply concerned about the hunger that threatens their survival,” the outlets emphasized.

Gaza has been under Israeli aggression since October 7,2023, in retaliation for deadly Hamas attacks, which have resulted in the destruction of its civilian infrastructure and the killing of more than 50,000 Palestinians.

In recent months, Israel’s ground offensive has further aggravated the humanitarian crisis, with the imposition of a total blockade, despite international condemnation of the devastating consequences and the forced displacement of the population.

The day before, the French Foreign Ministry accused the Israeli government of creating a risk of famine among Palestinians and urged an end to this situation.

In a statement, it warned that the expansion of the offensive in Gaza is accelerating the deterioration of the humanitarian situation after 21 months of war.

In addition to the famine, denounced by several non-governmental organizations, Paris mentioned malnutrition in the densely populated Palestinian enclave.
