Mexico’s inflation slows down in first half of July

Mexico City, Jul 24 (Prensa Latina) The National Consumer Price Index in Mexico increased 0.15 percent in the first fortnight of July equal to the same period of the previous month, with which annual inflation decelerated to 3.55, Inegi reported today.

According to a press release from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, in the same period of 2024, biweekly inflation was 0.71 percent and annual inflation was 5.61 percent.

The underlying price index, which excludes goods and services with more volatile prices or those that do not respond to market conditions, rose 0.15 percent at a biweekly rate, while merchandise prices rose 0.05 percent and services prices rose 0.24 percent.

Meanwhile, at a biweekly rate, the non-core price index grew 0.16 percent, the text details, referring that, within this, those of fruits and vegetables rose 0.25 and those of energy and government-authorized tariffs, 0.12.

According to the institution, in the first fortnight of July, the underlying and non-core indexes registered an annual increase of 4.25 and 1.24 percent, respectively; meanwhile, at the same time of the previous year, the variation was 4.02 and 10.64, in that order.

The generic products whose price variations, both upward and downward, stood out for their impact on general inflation were eggs, air transportation, lunch boxes, fondas, torterias and taquerias, as well as own housing, with price increases.
