The Charge d’Affaires of the Cuban Embassy, Natalys Dinza, remembered the epic struggle carried out by a group of young people led by the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, in 1953, which marked the beginning of the final stage of the struggle against governments serving the interests of the United States.
Dinza emphasized that the national holiday pays tribute to the martyrs and the unbreakable spirit of the struggle for sovereignty, social equality, and the dignity of the people.
She thanked the participants, especially the Ethiopians who graduated in Cuba (Ethiopian-Cubans) who each year make this anniversary their own.
This July 26th marks the 72nd anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada Barracks in Santiago de Cuba and the Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Barracks in Bayamo, eastern Cuba.
More than 100 young people carried out the action with the aim of launching the fight to overthrow dictator Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958). Despite suffering a setback and the murder of many comrades, they did not give up until, just over five years later, they achieved the triumph of their ideas. jdt/iff/arc/nmr
