In Uruguay-Brazil border arms trafficking dismantled

Montevideo, Jul 28 (Prensa Latina) Authorities in the northern Uruguayan department of Artigas dismantled an international arms trafficking network on the border with Brazil, it was reported today. The “Capella” operation arrested three Brazilian citizens who received prison sentences.

In addition, 13 firearms were seized, including rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers.

Also 10 thousand cartridges of various calibers, thousands of primers and warheads were seized, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

The accused were two men and a woman, who also carried out financial maneuvers in Artigas.

A 36-year-old man was sentenced to four years in prison as the perpetrator of repeated crimes of international firearms trafficking.

Another 27-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were convicted as accomplices. The former must serve 18 months in prison and the woman eight months.
