According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, this type of vaccine, distributed among public health centers, is formulated to provide greater protection, especially for infants, pregnant women, and the elderly.
In statements to Prensa Latina, the coordinator of the Expanded Immunization Program, Itzel de Hewitt, specified that health centers and Social Security Fund clinics are authorized to provide the new vaccine free of charge.
“We make a special appeal to people over 60 years of age to be shot with this vaccine, which can also be administered alongside the Respiratory Syncytial Virus vaccine, which we recently launched,” the expert emphasized.
These vaccines were acquired through the Pan American Health Organization’s Revolving Fund, a mechanism used by several countries in the region to facilitate access to updated vaccines.
According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health’s Epidemiology Department, 1,609 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in week 27, and 19 deaths were reported, reinforcing the need to maintain the vaccination strategy, especially among the most vulnerable groups.
