Haiti aims to improve vaccination coverage

Port-au-Prince, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) Health authorities in Haiti aim at improving vaccination coverage in the Caribbean nation, where many preventable diseases have a marked incidence in children and vulnerable people.

This idea will come true by the Expanded Program of Immunization that will direct its efforts to increase this section from 75 to 95 percent for all antigens.

According to Le Nouvelliste, this plan will be supported by the departmental health directorates and the Ministry of Public Health and Population for the success of this mobilization.

According to Haiti Libre, this ministry carried out in May 2024 a vaccination campaign against diphtheria, a disease that has a great impact on children.

This plan was supported by the World Health Organization in the departments of Artibonite, Centre, Grande-Anse, Nippes, Nord, Nord-Est and Sud-Est.

The program targeted 348,680 children aged 11 to 59 months.

Included in the campaign were 17,598 infants with zero doses in the communes most affected by diphtheria and those with zero doses and insufficiently vaccinated in the first quarter of 2024.
