Global network against human trafficking regrets victims increase

Vatican City, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) Thalita Kum, a global Catholic network against human trafficking, reported a significant increase in victims in a report marking International Day Against Human Trafficking this Wednesday.

The organization reported on a Vatican News website that it provided, during 2024, assistance to 939,185 people, particularly 46,000 women and girls, who were subjected to human trafficking, representing a 19 percent increase compared to the previous year.

The conflicts currently ravaging the world, such as those in the Middle East, Myanmar, and Ukraine, among others, are having a significant impact on the management of the activities of the international network of nuns against trafficking, the article highlights.

“These crises displace entire communities, increasing the risks for women, children, migrants, and refugees, but despite these challenges, we have expanded our support to victims and survivors, emphasizes “Thalita Kum network, a biblical name that means “Girl, Arise” in Aramaic.

The group’s report reaffirms that “prevention remains one of the most effective tools to fight trafficking” and highlights that in 2024, training, education, and information projects reached nearly 700,000 people, representing an 11 percent increase compared to the previous year.
