“Our visit to Moscow is the first of its kind since the overthrow of Bashar Al-Assad’s government on December 8. We held positive talks with the head of intelligence, the Minister of Defense, the Russian Foreign Minister, and President Putin,” Al-Shaibani stated, according to the Syrian Foreign Ministry’s Telegram channel.
The minister emphasized that Syria and Russia share the will of establishing new relations, leave the past behind, and transform the historical closeness between the two peoples into concrete and shared interests.
He added that Damascus seeks to cooperate with all countries in the region and around the world, both with traditional partners and new allies.
Syria has emerged from a 14-year war that left a very difficult legacy for the new government: half of the population displaced or refugees, four million homes destroyed, and an economy stifled by sanctions, he clarified.
He added that despite these difficult circumstances, efforts were focused on lifting the sanctions, and pointed out that the Syrian people are tired of the war and the priority now is reconstruction.
In this regard, he affirmed that this vision requires maintaining regional stability and achieving a balance in political relations with both the Arab world and international actors.
