The latest to join the candidates for the Casa de Narino, the Government Headquarters, for that group was Senator Maria Jose Pizarro, who will present her pre-candidacy at Panorama Theater in Bogota.
“With a heart full of hope, joy, and the firm conviction that we are on the right path, I present my pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic for the Historic Pact,” the legislator, daughter of guerrilla fighter and politician Carlos Pizarro, assassinated in 1990, announced her decision.
The congresswoman asserted that she aims to preserve and provide continuity to the current political project, “which emerged from hope, the struggles of the Colombian people, the streets, and the territories.”
Pizarro is the seventh candidate to date for the Historic Pact, which is amid a process to pass from a coalition of organizations to a single party.
In addition to Pizarro, the candidates include former Environment Minister Susana Muhamad, Senator Gloria Florez, former Health Minister Carolina Corcho, former Medellin Mayor Daniel Quintero, former Senator Gustavo Bolivar, and former Ambassador Camilo Romero.
The name of the definitive aspirant will emerge from a popular consultation to be held in October.
