The leader of the Bavira chiefdom, Mwami Romain Lenge, told Radio Okapi that there are serious difficulties in accessing medical care and humanitarian aid for the displaced populations living in this area.

He stated that these are people who left their homes fleeing the violence of the armed conflict, primarily in Goma, the capital of North Kivu province, and in Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu province.

“This aggression is causing massive population displacement. People are fleeing Goma and Bukavu to seek refuge in Uvira, where we are registering a large number of displaced people. Providing them with care is a serious problem,” he emphasized.

The worsening humanitarian crisis in the DRC is a source of concern for various institutions, including the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which is promoting a fundraising campaign for humanitarian aid.

Called Every Dollar Counts, this initiative was launched on July 30 and aims to raise funds online over a month to provide aid to more than three million internally displaced people in the DRC.
