Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hopes that several items of the ceasefire agreement, mediated by his country, can be formalized before August 7, the final scheduled day of the meeting.
We pray for consensus and a final resolution, as this issue not only affects bilateral relations but also the credibility of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Anwar Ibrahim affirmed.
He said, “All these problems must be resolved by consensus, and I would like to thank the governments of Cambodia and Thailand for demonstrating a positive attitude toward achieving a lasting solution.”
The meeting involves senior defense and security officials from Thailand and Cambodia.
The current Thailand-Cambodia conflict started on July 24, with mutual accusations of having fired the first shot.
It claimed the lives of 43 people on both sides, including several civilians, in addition to causing dozens of injuries and the displacement of nearly 300,000 people.
