UNICEF decries humanitarian crisis in Gaza due to Israeli war

Ramallah, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) denounced the consequences of the Israeli aggression for more than two million Palestinians living in Gaza Strip and demanded an end to the conflict.

“Death by bombardment. Death by malnutrition and starvation. Death by lack of aid and vital services,” UNICEF’s regional department for the Middle East and North Africa wrote on its X profile.

The UN agency warned that an average of 28 children die in that coastal enclave every day.

UNICEF stated that the children there “need food, water, medicine, and protection, but more than anything, they need a ceasefire now.”

A few hours earlier, UNICEF’s Executive Director, Catherine Russell, also issued a call on X for help for children and the general population in Gaza.

UNICEF warned in a report published in June that nearly 11,000 pregnant women face famine in Gaza and 17,000 more require urgent treatment for acute malnutrition.

The UN agency highlighted that 1.9 million people in the Strip, 90 percent of the total, were forced to flee their homes due to the war.
