In the seventh month of the year, electricity demand was 1,214 GWh, 1.3 percent higher than the highest previous record, registered in the same month last year.
This was stated in a report by the consulting firm SEG Ingeniería, based on data from the state-owned Administración Nacional de Usinas y Trasmisiones Eléctricas (UTE).
At the same time, it was learned that 97% of the electricity generated in July came from renewable sources, with a total of 1,277 GWh, which is equivalent to 5% more than the demand for the month.
Of this total, 51.4% corresponded to hydraulic energy, 30.1% to wind, 13.7% to biomass, 2.5% to hydrocarbons and 2.2% to solar energy.
Uruguay is a world reference in renewable energy generation, with 99.1 percent of clean sources in 2024.
