On the social network X, the president wrote: ‘Upon learning of the air crash in #Ghana, in which Minister of Defense and the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation died, among other senior officials, we express our solidarity and condolences to the government and people of that sister nation.
Authorities of the African country described as ‘national tragedy’, the crash of the aircraft, which occurred yesterday in the southern region of Ashanti, and which killed the holders of the respective portfolios, Edward Oman Boama and Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.
According to government information, another six people, including passengers and crew, have also died while on their way to a public event in the mining town of Obuasi.
The other victims have been identified as Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, Vice-President of the political party National Democratic Congress; Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Disaster Relief Agency; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
Illegal mining is now one of the environmental problems in this West African country.
