Ismail al-Thawabta, Director General of the Government Media Office in Gaza, stated that Israel is obstructing the entry of humanitarian aid to international organizations, especially the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

In an interview with the Shebab news agency, the official estimated that the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aims to block the ability of UNRWA and the UN to carry out their relief missions in Gaza.

Al-Thawabta warned that Israel’s authorities are trying to weaken any neutral party that enjoys the trust of the population and seek to replace it with alternatives that lack humanitarian principles.

He said, “Food and medicine have become weapons in the occupation’s (Israeli) war on the civilian population.”

Al-Thawabta called for reopening border crossings, establishing a humanitarian corridor, ending the famine policy, and bringing Israeli leaders to justice for their crimes.

The official also accused this week the neighboring nation of promoting a project of “deliberate engineering of chaos and famine,” as part of a plan to reoccupy the territory and displace its population.
