More families leave Syria’s Sweida governorate in a single day

Damascus, August 11 (Prensa Latina) A total of 139 families, comprising 555 people, left the southern Syrian governorate of Sweida in the last 24 hours, the Syrian Civil Defense reported.

The agency stated that among the displaced are women and children, who received assistance and transportation to their destinations in the neighboring province of Deraa.

In the opposite direction, another 76 families—308 people—entered Sweida through the humanitarian corridor in the town of Bousra al-Sham.

According to data from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), some 192,000 people have left the governorate amid the security crisis, despite the reduction in violence following the ceasefire announced on July 19. However, sporadic clashes, movement restrictions, and checkpoints continue to hamper the arrival of humanitarian aid.

In recent weeks, Sweida has experienced a deteriorating humanitarian situation due to clashes between local groups and Bedouin factions, followed by the intervention of government forces and Israeli bombings.

This situation led to shortages of food, flour, and fuel, as well as a partial collapse of medical services following damage to the provincial hospital and a lack of medical supplies.

With the relative calm, the Syrian government, in coordination with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and international organizations, sent several relief convoys with flour, food, medicine, and fuel, intended to cover the basic needs of essential facilities and services in the governorate.
