Buenos Aires City Legislature honors BienalSur

Buenos Aires, August 12 (Prensa Latina) The Buenos Aires City Legislature has agreed to declare the activities of BienalSur of "Cultural Interest," a distinction that will be awarded to its founders, Diana Wechsler and Anibal Jozami.

The project is an initiative of Representative Cecilia Ferrero, president of the City Legislature’s Culture Commission, and its objective is to recognize BienalSur “for its contribution to the promotion and democratization of contemporary art throughout its five editions.”

In recent weeks, BienalSur has celebrated its tenth anniversary with various exhibitions in several galleries in Buenos Aires, as well as in Spain. As a prelude to its two decades of fruitful work, it mounted exhibitions for the first time in Colombia.

In her resolution, the legislator emphasizes that “with a federal and international imprint, BienalSur consolidated a horizontal and inclusive model, based on dialogue and the collective construction of knowledge.”

Its development within the framework of an Argentine public university, such as UNTREF, reinforces the commitment to democratizing access to art and culture, allowing contemporary art to reach territories and audiences traditionally excluded from the hegemonic circuit, noted Representative Ferrero.

She also praised: “BienalSur has managed to integrate Argentine artists into international art circuits and has brought globally relevant figures to the country, enriching the local cultural ecosystem.

BienalSur has showcased a diverse range of artistic creations in 133 venues in 70 cities across 30 countries on five continents, from Germany to Senegal, Mozambique and the Middle East, where it organized a cultural event in Lebanon, 50 kilometers from where Israel was carrying out intense bombing.
