According to official sources, the leaders discussed the current international situation, peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine, and the importance of the G20, a forum of the world’s 19 major economies and the European and African Unions, and the Brics group.
Both countries pledged to expand cooperation in sectors such as health, oil and gas, digital economy, and satellites, as well as to identify new business opportunities.
Lula reiterated China’s importance to the success of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will be held in November in Belem, capital of the northern Amazonian state of Para, and to the fight against climate change.
During the call, where Lula briefed Xi on the current state of relations between Brazil and the United States and its stance on defending his nation’s sovereignty, he praised China’s efforts to adhere to multilateralism and safeguard free trade rules, while the Sino leader expressed his support for the Brazilian people in defending their legitimate rights and interests.
Xi urged all countries to unite and oppose unilateralism and protectionism and also affirmed that China is willing to work with Brazil to set an example of unity and self-reliance among the major countries of the Global South.
