Recognized as one of the most important theater groups on the Cuban stage, it will perform the show “31 Years Singing with Teatro de Las Estaciones” at Jose White concert hall.
An example of puppet theater and acclaimed for the variety and design of its works, the company was founded in 1994 by Ruben Dario Salazar (actor and artistic director) and Zenen Calero Medina (set, costume, and puppet designer), both of whom received the 2020 National Theater Award.
Salazar described the show as “a summer afternoon of music, dance, and puppets,” a celebration that will be joined by pianist, arranger, and composer Elvira Santiago; composer, arranger, and bassist Raul Valdes; and soprano, arranger, and composer Barbara Llanes.
Until early August, the group performed “Todo esta cantando en la vida” (Everything is Singing in Life) at its Matanzas headquarters, dedicated to Cuban singer-songwriter Teresita Fernandez, widely popular on the Caribbean island for her extensive repertoire of children’s songs.
From the songs, characters emerge, music builds to a joyful atmosphere, thanks to the acting and voices, this time, of Lucelsy Fernandez, Ivan Garcia, Maria Laura German, Sonia Maria Cobos, Ale Garcia, and William Quintana.
Their work also includes research, teaching, and promotional activities for the world of puppets, including publications, exhibitions, conferences, courses, and audiovisual materials.
Las Estaciones has performed at the most important theater festivals in the country, as well as at international events and on tours in Spain, France, Mexico, Italy, Venezuela, Denmark, Costa Rica, Uruguay, the Dominican Republic, Martinique, Brazil, Ecuador, China, and the United States.
