At the ceremony marking the start of activities in India for the centenary of Fidel Castro’s (1926-2016) birth, which will end on August 13 next year, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), M. A. Baby, was the representative of the presentation of the donation of more than 28 million rupees, or approximately $320,000.
This amount will be used to purchase medicines to be sent to Cuba, stated Arun Kumar, a member of the political bureau of the political organization and secretary general of the All-India Peace and Solidarity Organization, at the event in tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution on the occasion of his 99th birthday.
At the event, which was attended by Venezuelan ambassador Capaya Rodriguez and members of the diplomatic corps from Latin American, African, and Chinese countries, M. A. Baby stated that supporting Cuba means standing up for truth, human dignity, and the right to freedom and independence.
Previously, the Cuban ambassador highlighted Fidel’s key role in the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and emphasized that, under his leadership, Cuba subsequently made progress in building a new society characterized by justice and humanism and fought great battles, always threatened by US imperialism.
Marsan decried the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, which, he noted, has been tightened by the current Donald Trump administration, and reiterated his rejection of the unjust designation of Havana as a state sponsor of terrorism.
The diplomat also noted that Fidel lives on in the millions of Cubans who fight for their country’s progress and in friends like the Indian people who believe in solidarity.
